Film Opening Analysis- Dead Silence
The Film starts with sentences in a old fashion type write font hinting at the idea that the story could be set or based around the past. Their is a Victorian decoration lining the upper and lower screen just like in the first few videos made and the editor has put a grainy effect on to make it look as if its an original tape from Victorian times.
The camera cuts to an extreme close up of a candle being lit in a slight blue light. This tells us that the character who lit the match is in darkness. A typical fear that works well in horror films. Titles fade in and out on screen in a red font which is associated with blood; another typical horror film aspect. The camera then cross cuts several times to different shots of the character flicking through a craft book, we see extreme close ups of dolls in the book out first guess at what the films about. As the non-diegetic soundtrack builds up we come to a title that says DEAD SILENCE. The title is in a different font to all the other titles used so far, like a fairground/carnival title which ties in with the doll theme.
I think this opening is really effective how they have used no dialogue or much use of actual actors yet managed to build up a big suspense in just over a minute.
