The Grudge.
The film starts with an image of the film company Columbia then to opening statements with a black background and white font. The typical words associated with horror fade to red e.g; death. Then the camera cuts to an establishing ariel shot of an industrial area. It then cuts to a mid shot of a man in a bedroom looking lost and diranged. It then cuts to a long shot of him walking out on a balcony. Then, the camera cuts to a close up shot of a young women waking up talking to the man. A long shot from the point of view of the woman looking at the man is then shown as he 'falls' over the rails of the balcony. A hand held shot in the mans perspective falling to the floor is then cut to and finally cuts back to the woman a mid shot with a pan movement to follow her getting out of bed and walking to where the man just jumped. The panning movement is slow to show her nerves for what she is about to see.
I like this opening because it didnt give much away about the film but also had good elements of an eery horror film. The opening statements allowed the audience to get an understanding that the film is quite surreal and also, its different to what you usually see in horror films.
