The Film starts with some non-diegetic piano music using sharp notes - typically associated with horror. slow, creepy music. It then cuts to an image of a newspaper and an extreme close up on the words buried alive instantly making a link with murder and death. The camera then cuts to an establishing shot of a hospital and then another extreme close up of a mans flickering eyelids. The camera then cuts back and forth from the eyes to past memories of the man who's eyes we are watching showing us he is recalling something that happened.
A nurse then enters the room looking confused as there is no patient in the bed. The camera then cuts to a shot of a corner of the room slightly showing the figure of a man in a hospital gown. Non-diegetic sweeping violin music starts starting high pitched to low pitch as the shot fades to a black screen then with special effects the words 'My Bloody Valentine' are written in red and a dripping effect representing blood.
This is a good opening as it establishes the story - mining and murder and death and also hints to the audience the idea of a massacre which will be more gory and scary for the viewers.
